Next month sees the return of two popular 10k events in South Yorkshire.
The 2019 Rotherham 10k attracted over 500 entrants and the course took a lap of the town with the start and finish at Clifton Park. But 2020’s race was seriously impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic and the organising committee moved quickly to ensure that the event went ahead – virtually. It went on to smash its fundraising target of £10,000 for Age UK Rotherham.
Again the event was unable to be held in 2021, but it is back for 2022, taking place on May 15.
Chair of the Rotherham 10K and Rotherham Harriers, Steve Gaines, said: “We are really excited to be bringing the race back to Rotherham – thanks to our new headline sponsor Revs N Relics, Maltby. The race proved very popular in both 2018 and 2019, and we hope to make this year’s return the best one yet. Please support us by taking part and raise money for Age UK Rotherham!”
Starting and finishing in Clifton Park, the 10k will be followed by a one-mile lap around the award-winning park as a fun run and schools’ Mile a Day Challenge.
The 10k route will run through the park and encompass the town centre, then out past the AESSEAL New York Stadium to Canklow before returning to the Minster and climbing up Doncaster Gate. The route then goes out to Herringthorpe Stadium before returning back to the park.
The closing date for entries is Friday May 6 and more details can be found here: http://www.rotherham10k.com/
Also returning is Neurocare’s Head Start. A week later, on May 22, Rother Valley Country Park will host a 5K fun run or UKA chip-timed 10K. Head Start is the region’s flattest, fastest and friendliest charity run and raises money help in the to fight to improve the lives of patients with head injuries, brain tumours and other complex neurological conditions.
